ABSTRACT The quantification and transfer of nutrient stock among compartments in the forest environment is the key to understanding the nutrient cycling process. The aim of this study was to quantify the nutrient stock and dynamics by litter deposition in a Corymbia citriodora settlement in the Mountainous region of the State of Rio de Janeiro. Different plant parts, deciduous material and litter were chemically analyzed for nutrients. The biomass of trees was 127.23 Mg ha-1, making up about 85.8% of the nutrient stock. On average, the nutrient flux represented 13.6% of nutrients stored in the biomass above the soil. The nutrient cycling process involving N, P, K Ca, and Mg in the long-rotation Corymbia citriodora crop represents an important strategy for maintaining productivity of the forest site.

O presente estudo teve o objetivo de realizar a avaliação de custos de dois modelos de harvester, na colheita de madeira de eucalipto. A pesquisa avaliou a derrubada e o processamento da árvore, com idade de 6 anos, no sistema de toras curtas, para dois modelos de harvester, em áreas localizadas nos municípios de Conceição da Barra - ES e Caravelas - BA. Avaliaram-se dois modelos de harvester, PC-228 SHO e PC-200 LC, da marca Komatsu. As informações foram coletadas durante um período de 6 meses, que compreende os meses de março a agosto de 2010, pelo método de censo. Calcularam-se os custos operacionais dos dois modelos de harvester, pelo método contábil, o qual utiliza valores estimados em reais. Realizou-se ainda a análise de sensibilidade de custos para os elementos que mais contribuem com o custo final. Obteve-se o custo operacional para os modelos PC 200 e PC 228 de R$ 156,95 e R$ 168,84 por hora efetiva, respectivamente. Em relação aos custos operacionais totais, os custos mais significativos foram: combustível, manutenção e reparos e depreciação, com 24,41%, 22,39% e 19,08%, respectivamente. Na análise de sensibilidade, simulando uma situação em que a empresa consiga uma economia real de 10% em cada um desses itens, a mesma poderá obter uma redução no custo de produção em 7%, para as duas máquinas avaliadas.

The present study aimed to carry through the evaluation of costs of two models of harvester in the wood harvesting of Eucalyptuswood. The research evaluated the 6-year old tree fallen and processing, in the cut-to-length system for two models of harvester, in areas located in the cities of Conceição da Barra, Espírito Santo state and Caravelas, Bahia state. It was evaluated the models of harvester PC-228 SHO and PC-200 LC, of the Komatsu Mark. The information was collected during a period of 6 months, from March to August 2010, by the method of census. It was calculated the operational costs of the two models of harvester, for the countable method, which uses values in 'Reais', the Brazilian currency. It was conducted further analysis of cost sensitivity for the elements that contribute most to the final cost. We obtained the operating cost models for PC 200 and PC 228 of R$ 156,95 and R$ 168,84 per effective hour, respectively. In relation with the total operational costs, the most significant costs were: fuel, maintenance, and repairs/depreciation, with 24.41%, 22.39% and 19.08%, respectively. In the sensitivity analysis, simulating a situation where the company gets a real economy of 10% in each one of these items, the same one will be able to get a reduction in the cost of production in 7%, for the two evaluated machines.

A madeira, quando exposta a condições de estresse, como no caso de um gradiente de temperatura, pode levar a estrutura de uma determinada instalação ao desmoronamento. A taxa na qual a madeira se converte em carvão é determinante, em função da redução da seção resistente. A presente investigação teve como objetivo avaliar o comportamento termomecânico da madeira de Corymbia citriodora submetida a gradientes de temperatura e diferentes tempos de exposição, com diferentes tratamentos (Verniz e CCB), com o intuito de minimizar o processo de carbonização. No que diz respeito aos ensaios mecânicos, pode-se afirmar que o aumento da temperatura de carbonização e do tempo de exposição das amostras ocasionou um decréscimo da resistência à compressão paralelamente às fibras do material, ocasionado fragilidade de carregamento. Os tratamentos testados (CCB e Verniz) não apresentaram resultados satisfatórios no que diz respeito ao retardo da combustão, não sendo, portanto, recomendáveis para esses fins.

Wood exposed to stress conditions, such as temperature gradients, may lead to collapse of installation structure. The rate at which wood becomes charcoal is crucial because of the reduction of the resistant section. This research aimed to evaluate the thermo-mechanical behavior of Corymbia citriodora wood subjected to temperature gradients and different exposure times, under different treatments (Varnish and CCB), in order to minimize the carbonization process. With respect to mechanical tests, it is possible to affirm that the increase in carbonization temperature and time of exposure of the samples resulted in a decrease in the compression strength parallel to the fibers of the material, causing brittleness. The treatments (Varnish and CCB) tested did not present satisfactory results with respect to combustion delay; therefore, they are not recommended for such purposes.

O objetivo deste trabalho foi estudar a divergência genética e propor uma subcoleção representativa da traça-do-tomateiro, Tuta absoluta (TDT). O experimento foi conduzido com quatro populações do inseto procedentes de Uberlândia, MG, Viçosa, MG, Camocim de São Félix, PE, e Santa Teresa, ES, e cinco acessos de tomateiro, 'Santa Clara', 'Moneymaker', TOM-601, PI 126445 (Lycopersicon hirsutum f. typicum) e PI 134417 (L. hirsutum f. glabratum). Foi realizada análise de agrupamento (método de Tocher, usando a distância de Mahalanobis como medida de dissimilaridade) e verificada a importância relativa dos caracteres da TDT para a divergência genética entre populações por meio do método de Singh. As populações de cada grupo obtido pela análise de agrupamento foram combinadas e, para cada caráter, foi realizado o teste t de Student para uma média. Existe variabilidade genética entre populações da TDT provenientes de diferentes localidades do Brasil, quando estão infestando Lycopersicon spp. A mortalidade larval teve maior contribuição para a divergência genética entre as populações, com exceção de PI 134417, cujo caráter de maior contribuição foi o número de pupas fêmeas. Propõe-se uma subcoleção da TDT tomando-se por base a combinação das populações de Santa Teresa e Uberlândia.

This work aimed to study the genetic diversity and to propose a representative tomato pinworm, Tuta absoluta (TDT), subcollection. Populations of insect originally from Uberlândia, MG, Viçosa (MG), Camocim de São Félix, PE, and Santa Teresa, ES, Brazil, and five tomato accessions, 'Santa Clara', 'Moneymaker', TOM-601, PI 126445 (Lycopersicon hirsutum f. typicum) and PI 134417 (L. hirsutum f. glabratum) were used. Grouping analysis (Tocher method, using the Mahalanobis distance as dissimilarity measurement) was performed and the relative importance of TDT characters to the genetic divergence among populations was evaluated by Singh method. The pinworm populations of each group obtained by grouping analysis were combined, and for each character, Student t test for one mean was performed. There is genetic variability among TDT populations collected from different regions of Brasil, when infested on Lycopersicon spp. The larval mortality contributed most to divergence among TDT populations, except for PI 134417, which had the number of female pupae as the characteristic of the highest contribution. A subcollection is proposed from combination of the Santa Teresa and Uberlândia populations.
